The State Language Proficiency Examination is not internationally recognised, nevertheless, it can prove to be important for you, especially in the professional field.
Elementary State Language Proficiency Examination verifies the candidate´s language skills and knowledge of the main aspects of living in the language specific area, that is, in Spain and Latin America.
The contents of the Elementary State Language Proficiency Examination focus on common daily life situations, main aspects of political, economic and cultural situation in the language specific area and their comparison with Slovakia.
The candidate shall demonstrate their ability to understand oral and written text and to independently express themselves in oral and written form about certain topics to such an extent of language devices as defined in the level of difficulty for the Elementary State Language Proficiency Examination. The required level of foreign language knowledge is stipulated by the Regulation of Slovak Ministry of Education no. 44/96 and for the Elementary State Language Proficiency Examination it corresponds to 525 to 600 lessons, that is, 4 to 5 years of studies in state language school courses (completing elementary and intermediate courses).
Based on its difficulty, the Elementary State Language Proficiency Examination is at upper intermediate level. The candidate is not only required to have a command of the language at this level, but also to demonstrate knowledge of life and institutions and literature as prescribed in the syllabus. We recommend complementary studies according to the specific of the examination. The Elementary State Language Proficiency Examination consists of two parts: written and oral. Candidates who have not passed the written part cannot proceed to the oral part.
General State Language Proficiency Examination verifies the candidate´s practical and theoretical language skills and knowledge of the main aspects of political, economic, social and cultural situation in the language specific area and in Slovakia and whether they can actively use them in oral and written expression.
The required level of foreign language knowledge is stipulated by the Regulation of Slovak Ministry of Education no. 44/96 and for the General State Language Proficiency Examination it corresponds to 840 to 980 lessons, that is, at least 7 years of studies in state language school courses (completing elementary, intermediate, upper intermediate and state examination preparatory courses). That means that the preparation for the General State Language Proficiency Examination requires longer and more precise studies of the language and improving all the skills. Based on its difficulty, the General State Language Proficiency Examination is at advanced level and the candidate is not only required to have a command of the language at this level, but also to demonstrate knowledge of life and institutions and literature as prescribed in the syllabus.
Not only by its level of difficulty, but also by its qualification, the General State Language Proficiency Examination is at the same level as the State Language Proficiency Final Examination at faculties of education or philosophy (Regulation of Slovak Ministry of Education no. 41/96). The General State Language Proficiency Examination consists of two parts: written and oral. Candidates who have not passed the written part cannot proceed to the oral part.
